I was talking to my mom the other day and she reminded me of the quote:
“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.”
As you can probably imagine this piece of advice surfaced as I explained a situation where I was hoping for a better outcome without doing anything differently.
Ya see, we all get caught up in our own cycles. This cycle may feel familiar to you, and may appear like the one below…
We do the ‘thing’, regret the ‘thing’, and eventually crave/are tempted yet again.
Your ‘thing’ could be anything from eating lots of sweets in one sitting, to constantly working late, to spending hours on social media, to people-pleasing, to having the same argument with a partner (the list goes on and on).
Although being in the cycle has its perks (like predictability and comfort), there is a limit to how many times we can go around it. So with a little self-awareness and some will-power we can break the cycle.
How? Choice = Change.
Choice is our opportunity to leave the cycle and change the outcome.
